Eric Hartwell

Flight Training Manager

My journey with Performance Aircraft began as a customer back in 2008. I started flight training in a Cessna 172SP Skyhawk during my senior year of high school at Lincoln East and completed my private pilot license that July. In February 2011, I started an internship at Performance which grew into a part time position.

In May of 2012, I became the Flight Training Manager. As the Flight Training Manager I am excited to help others understand the advantages of learning to fly at Performance Aircraft. I enjoy coordinating events for the Performance Pilot Club including seminars, local tours, and social events. I am also the Test Center Supervisor for the PSI Testing Center onsite.

In my free time I enjoy spending time with family and friends, trap shooting, and of course flying.

Flying has been a passion of mine for as long as I can remember. When I was fifteen, I joined the local Civil Air Patrol in Wisconsin and began my flight training in a Cessna 172.

I soloed the day after my sixteenth birthday and completed my Private Pilot certificate the following summer. I attended Andrews University in southwestern Michigan, studying aviation flight and maintenance, where I obtained my airframe and powerplant certificates, commercial pilot single and multi-engine certificates, instrument instructor rating, and multi-engine instructor rating.

In 2013 I moved to Nebraska to be closer to family, I began working as an A&P at Silverhawk Aviation, and also as a CFI at Performance Aircraft. I enjoyed flight instruction so much I went full time in the fall of 2014 and received my CSIP (Cirrus Standardized Instructor Pilot) certification in 2015. I also hold a Gold Seal Flight Instructor Certificate.

In my free time I enjoy camping, rock climbing, and biking.

I grew up here in Lincoln, NE and graduated from Lincoln East in 2007. Ever since my first discovery flight in 5th grade, I knew I wanted to fly.

In 2013, I decided to make my dream of flying a reality, so I came to Performance Aircraft and earned my private pilot certificate. In 2015, I earned my flight instructor certificate, while also attending the University of Nebraska – Omaha. I graduated with a bachelor’s degree in aviation and minor in math in May of 2016, and I became certified to teach instrument ratings (CFII) later in 2016.

In my free time, I enjoy reading anything aviation related, traveling, playing golf, hunting, and fishing.

I am very excited to share my passion for flying and aviation with all of my students.

Aviation has been an enjoyable and challenging career for me since 1967. Flying allowed me to complete a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree. I have been fortunate to fly airliners and military aircraft. I have an ATP (Airline Transport Pilot Certificate).

I am a Gold Seal Flight Instructor who is certified to teach Instrument ratings (CFII) and Multi Engine (MEI).  I am also an Advanced Ground Instructor (AGI).

I enjoy working with students at Performance Aircraft on a part time basis, and I hope to promote aviation to all interested future aviators.

Certified Flight Instructor

As a kid, my parents asked me what I wanted to grow up to be. After all the flight simulating and plane watching I had done, I knew I wanted to be a pilot. I was that little kid that said he wanted to be a pilot and meant it.

I first encountered Performance Aircraft in 2012 at a Duncan Aviation Day. I began my flight training and quickly earned my Private Pilot Certificate in the summer of 2013. I then traveled to Salina, Kansas to continue my flight training at Kansas State Polytechnic. In 2016, I graduated with my Bachelor of Science and a minor in Safety. I obtained my Certified Flight Instructor and Certified Flight Instrument Instructor licenses while in school.

In my free time, I enjoy biking, playing soccer, and hiking. I also enjoy flying and watching airplanes, of course.

I am excited to be at Performance Aircraft now as a Flight Instructor, inspiring and enabling students as they make their aviation goals a reality.
